How to sign a PDF on Android for free

Android phones don't have one standard signing tool, which is why people end up installing apps full of ads and subscriptions. The simplest free way is to sign in your browser.
Sign in Chrome, no app needed
- 1Download the PDF to your phone if it came by email or WhatsApp.
- 2Open signfree.org in Chrome and tap "Choose a PDF" under "Sign it yourself".
- 3Pick the PDF from your Downloads or Files.
- 4Tap Signature and draw your signature with your finger, or type your name.
- 5Tap where it goes on the document, then drag to adjust.
- 6Add text, a date or checkmarks if needed, then tap Download.
- 7Find the signed PDF in your Downloads folder. The file never left your phone while you signed it.
Other free options
Google Drive's PDF viewer lets you draw on a PDF in recent versions, which can work for a quick signature, but you draw it fresh each time. Samsung phones can also write on PDFs in some built-in apps. Both are fine for a one-off, but placing text and dates neatly is easier in a dedicated signer.
Beware of "free" signing apps
Many apps in the Play Store are free to install, then ask for a subscription or add a watermark when you save. Check the reviews before you install one. Signing in the browser avoids the problem completely.
Need someone else's signature?
Tap "Send it for signing", add the person's email and mark where they sign. They sign from a link on any device, without an account.
